The Atlanta Incursion by Matthew W. Quinn Book Review

Title: The Atlanta Incursion Author: Matthew W. Quinn Series: The Long War Book 2 Genre: Science Fiction Horror Published: Self-Published on 7/4/2020 After the events of The Thing in the Woods James Daley is attending Georgia State University, dating Amber Webb, and living with his best friend Eli Schwartz. James is dealing with nightmares about what he faced in the woods, but now he is starting to see visions of a new kind of threat right there in the heart of Atlanta.  I really enjoyed this sequel quite a bit. There is a lot of action with a great setting, and of course great otherworldly antagonists. If you are a fan of battles and adventure then this book will be for you. This is a great novel for fans of science fiction horror. My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman Book Review

Title: Incidents Around the House Author: Josh Malerman Genre: Horror Published: 6/25/24 by Del Ray I received a copy for review through NetGalley. Eight-year-old Bela lives with her Mommy, Daddo, and the thing in her closet called Other Mommy. She keeps asking to go into Bela's heart.  Anyone who has been scared of the monster in the closet or under the bed will appreciate how terrifying this novel is. A child in danger ramps up the scariness as well. The storytelling style is very unique being told from a young child's point of view. Seeing Bela's perspective of the actions of Other Mommy, and things going on between her parents is really interesting. There are a few truly scary scenes that get under the skin and linger. I highly recommend this novel for fans of the spooky. My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

When I Look At the Sky, All I See Are Stars by Steve Stred Book Review

Title: When I Look At the Sky, All I See Are Stars Author: Steve Stred Genre: Splatterpunk/Horror Published: 6/24/24 I received a copy for review through NetGalley. Psychiatrist Dr. Rachel Hoggendorf tries to treat David who claims to be 400 years old and possessed by a demon in a mental health facility. What starts as perplexing escalates to dangerous in this cosmic splatterpunk novella. I really enjoyed the conversation between psychiatrist and patient to setup the mystery with the unreliable character. This novella has graphic dark cult elements and cosmic horror elements. I recommend this one to those that don't mind graphic violence, gore, and sexual scenarios in their books. My Rating: 3.5 out of 5 Stars

How to Make a Horror Movie and Survive by Craig DiLouie Book Review

Title: How to Make a Horror Movie and Survive Author: Craig DiLouie Genre: Horror Published: 6/18/24 by Redhook Books I received a copy for review through NetGalley.   Max Maurey is one of the most popular 80s slasher director who wants to create something really scary so he acquires a movie camera that he knows has recorded real horror to use in his movie. What he doesn't know is that the camera is cursed. What could go wrong? A cursed movie camera is such a fun premise, and How to Make a Horror Movie and Survive delivers the slasher movie fun. This book mixes nods to 80s Hollywood, a behind the scenes look into movie making, and really creative kills. I highly recommend this novel especially to horror movie fans. My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

When the Night Falls by Glenn Rolfe Book Review

Title: When the Night Falls Author: Glenn Rolfe Series: Until Summer Comes Around Book 2 Genre: Horror Published: 6/11/24 by Flame Tree Press I received a copy for review through NetGalley.   A group of vampires descend upon a beach town after a documentary airs about the killings that took place there years ago. These vampires seem set on getting to Rocky, and leave a large body count in their wake. When the Night Falls is the sequel to the beach town vampire story Until Summer Comes Around. This time the story is a little bit darker and a little bit bloodier. It takes place in the 1990s with plenty of fun nods to the decade to set time and place. I would highly recommend this series to fans of vampire stories. These are fast fun reads for summer. My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
