Josie is having a hard time dealing with the death of her father and her failed marriage. She avoids dealing with these issues with alcohol. Until a strange plant full of vines starts taking over in her backyard. Things get weirder when a talking skeleton shows up in the middle of the plant. These new dilemmas may just force her to face everything she has been avoiding.

Little Bird is a strange story with unforgettable characters. Between the snarky alcoholic Josie, the cutest chihuahua Po, and the talking skeleton named Skelly you are not bound to forget this crew any time soon. This book shows the destructive effects that grief can have on someone's life if they cannot work through the feelings. I really enjoyed trying to figure out why Skelly was in Josie's yard. The subject matter was dark and heavy, but it was balanced with wit, the mystery of Skelly, and the cuteness of Po. I would recommend this story to those who like a bit of the fantastical mixed in with their hard hitting stories.

Swarm: Replugged Book Review by James Flynn

  Title: Swarm: Replugged Author: James Flynn Genre: Science Fiction Published Originally 2/1/2021 by the author, now with an new revised edition. Thank you to the author for providing a copy for review. In the second edition of Swarm, the city of Rachton is riddled with crime. A victim of crime, Eric Trammel, has turned to a life in the GLC to help fight against the criminals ruining his city. The answer the GLC comes up with is a new prison where prisoners can by connected to a hive mind to harvest their consciences to create answers to their hardest questions.  Swarm: Replugged is a great science fiction thought experiment of the possibilities of the human mind as well as the consequences of harvesting it. I read both editions of this book at the same time to compare. There are a lot of revisions that make the prose tighter though I really enjoyed both versions. When the Night Falls by Glenn Rolfe Book Review

  Title: When the Night Falls Author: Glenn Rolfe Series: Until Summer Comes Around Book 2 Genre: Horror Published: 6/11/24 by Flame Tree Press I received a copy for review through NetGalley.   A group of vampires descend upon a beach town after a documentary airs about the killings that took place there years ago. These vampires seem set on getting to Rocky, and leave a large body count in their wake. When the Night Falls is the sequel to the beach town vampire story Until Summer Comes Around. This time the story is a little bit darker and a little bit bloodier. It takes place in the 1990s with plenty of fun nods to the decade to set time and place. I would highly recommend this series to fans of vampire stories. These are fast fun reads for summer. My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
